Tank (portrayed by Marcus Chong) is a member of Morpheus' crew aboard the Nebuchadnezzar in The Matrix. He and his older brother Dozer are humans born outside of the Matrix free of machine control and as such, cannot enter the Matrix. Tank serves as the operator for Morpheus and the others who enter the Matrix, maintaining the ship's pirate transmission and guiding the redpills through the virtual construct during their missions. When Neo joins the Neb crew, Tank uploads all of the ship's combat training programs into his brain.

Later on in the film, Cypher stages a one-man mutiny aboard the Nebuchadnezzar, shooting Tank with a lightning rifle. However, Tank survives the shot and uses the lightning rifle (which Cypher set down next to his presumed-dead body) to kill Cypher. He aids Neo and Trinity as they try to save Morpheus from the Agents by providing them a massive arsenal of weapons out of the Construct program. After the rescue is successful, he tries to guide Neo to a safe exit point as the Agents pursue him. While it appears that Neo dies before making his escape, it is then that he re-awakens as the One, gaining the power to alter the virtual reality of the Matrix as he chooses. Tank strongly believed in the existence of the One and was overjoyed to find his faith validated.

Death[]

Tank apparently dies at some point between The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded. The details behind his death are unknown but his sister Zee mentions in the second film that she lost both her brothers aboard the Nebuchadnezzar. Tank's role as operator aboard the Neb is filled by his brother-in-law Link.
