Qui-Gon Jinn is a human Jedi Master who possesses great wisdom but a roguish way of thinking, an attitude that has prevented him from taking up a position on the Jedi Council. He makes his debut in Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace, in which he also meets his death. He also appears in flashbacks, visions and as a Force ghost in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and in Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. He is portrayed by Liam Neeson in every appearance.

Qui-Gon is the mentor of the young Obi-Wan Kenobi (who is portrayed by Ewan McGreggor) and is sent by the Jedi Council to settle a trade dispute between the Trade Federation and the Sovereignty of Naboo. When he arrives, he discovers that the Federation is invading the planet and he and Obi-Wan embark on a mission to rescue Queen Amidala and deliver her to the Republic capital of Coruscant. While the Jedi and their protectee make it past the Federation blockade, their ship is damaged and they are forced to make an emergency landing on the desert world of Tatooine. While there, they meet the young Anakin Skywalker - a slave child who possesses an unusually strong connection to the Force. Believing that the boy maybe a "Chosen One" prophecized to bring balance to the Force, Qui-Gonn takes steps to liberate Anakin from his life of servitude.
Qui-Gonn wins Anakin's freedom after making a bet with the boy's owner Watto, and takes him along to Coruscant once the ship is repaired. After arriving, Qui-Gon presents Anakin to the Jedi Council, who initially decide that Anakin is too old to undergo training. Determined to make sure that Anakin becomes a Jedi, he takes Anakin under his wing and has the boy accompany him, Obi-Wan and Queen Amidala to Naboo to try and take back the planet from the Trade Federation.
Death[]
As the liberation of Theed goes forward, Qui-Gonn and Obi-Wan are confronted by the Sith lord Darth Maul. Their battle takes them into the city's main power plant and into a ray-shielded corridor, where Obi-Wan and Qui-Gonn are seperated. Qui-Gonn and Darth Maul continue to fight while Obi-Wan is still blocked off by ray-shields, but Maul gains the upper hand and impales Qui-Gonn through the chest with his lightsaber. Qui-Gonn is still barely alive when Obi-Wan later defeats Darth Maul; he is cradled in his apprentice's arms and pleads Obi-Wan to train Anakin with his last breath. After his death, Qui-Gon's body is burned on a ceremonial funeral pyre, as is traditional for Jedi.
