Dean Russell (portrayed by Kellan Lutz) is a minor character from the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. A teenage resident of Springwood, Ohio, he is the first to be killed by the dream-stalking psychopath Freddy Krueger.
After several nights of bad dreams and having no confidence in psychotherapy, Dean goes to a diner to meet with his friend Kris Fowles. While waiting, he nods off to sleep and finds himself in a nightmare recreation of the diner where Freddy is waiting for him. He is woken up by the waitress Nancy Holbrook before Freddy can kill him, but when he wakes he finds a cut on his hand from where he struggled against Freddy.
After Kris arrives, she sits down with Dean who tries to tell her about his dreams and how he's afraid to fall asleep. Kris tries to convince Dean that the dreams aren't real, but Dean gets agitated and breaks his coffee mug. As Kris goes to get some cloths to clean up the mess, Dean sits back down only to fall asleep again. As soon as he's back in the nightmare, Freddy attacks and grabs him. Dean grabs a steak knife off the table to try and defend himself and stab Freddy, but the demonic killer is too strong and turns the knife on him. In the real world, as Kris comes back to Dean's table, she sees Dean on his feet holding the knife like he's preparing to cut his own throat. Dean is overpowered by Freddy who cuts his throat, but from Kris' horrified perspective, Dean commits suicide.
