Chan Kang (portrayed by Stephen Ho) is the younger brother of the Chinese fighter Liu Kang in the martial arts film Mortal Kombat, based on the popular video game.
When Liu leaves the Shaolin temple and goes to America, Chan takes his place in preparing for the Mortal Kombat tournament. One night, the Outworld sorcerer Shang Tsung visits the temple and engages Chan in combat, hoping to remove one of Earthrealm's would-be defenders. Chan fights valiantly, but he is no match for Tsung and is killed, his soul being consumed by the sorcerer.
Possessing Chan's soul, Shang Tsung uses it to his advantage when he fights Liu Kang in the final battle, assuming Chan's form and tormenting him. Liu comes to terms with his brother's death, no longer blaming himself, and defeats Shang Tsung. Upon Tsung's death, all the souls he had consumed - including Chan's - are released, and Chan thanks Liu and bids farewell as he passes on.
